Ambassador Premjith calling on the Grand Sheikh of Al-Azhar His Eminence Sheikh Dr Ahmed Al-Tayeb

The Ambassador of the Republic of Singapore His Excellency Premjith S called on the Grand Sheikh of Al-Azhar His Eminence Sheikh Dr Ahmed Al-Tayeb on 10 February 2014. During the meeting, Ambassador Premjith conveyed Singapore’s appreciation to Al-Azhar for ensuring the well-being of Singaporean students studying in Al-Azhar University.  Ambassador Premjith also expressed a wish to strengthen ties between Al-Azhar and Singapore.

His Eminence Sheikh Dr Al-Tayeb provided an overview of Al-Azhar’s role and steps it has taken since 30 June 2013. His Eminence Sheikh Dr Al-Tayeb explained that, following the referendum on the Constitution, Egypt was moving in the right direction as a “civil state with a religious background”, and expressed confidence that the political transition would be completed with the smooth implementation of the presidential and parliamentary elections.
