MFA Press Statement: Visit by Senior Minister of State Zainul Abidin Rasheed to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, 22 - 25 September 2009
Senior Minister of State (SMS) for Foreign Affairs Zainul Abidin Rasheed will visit the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from 23 to 25 September 2009 to attend the opening of the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) on 23 September 2009 on behalf of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. SMS Zainul Abidin Rasheed will have a Royal Audience with the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud together with other dignitaries attending the opening ceremony.
The development of KAUST is part of King Abdullah's efforts in transforming the Kingdom into a knowledge-based economy. KAUST is being developed as an international, graduate-level research university that focuses on science and technology. Singapore is contributing to the development of KAUST through the appointments of Professor Shih Choon Fong as President of KAUST and Chairman of the National Research Foundation Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam as a member of the KAUST Board of Trustees.
