The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Information, Communication and the Arts will jointly host the 1st Asia-Middle East Media Roundtable in Singapore on 6 August 2009. Singapore's initiative to host an Asia-Middle East Media Roundtable was first announced by Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo at the Second Asia-Middle East Dialogue meeting in April 2008 at Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
The Media Roundtable brings together over forty senior editors from Asia and the Middle East for a discussion on how media organisations from both regions can work better together. The theme for the Roundtable is "Promoting Asia-Middle East Dialogue (AMED) Cooperation: The Media's Role", and the discussions will focus on the media's crucial role in fostering regional linkages between Asia and the Middle East. The Roundtable aims to promote such links by allowing media practitioners and senior editors to network and exchange ideas on a variety of topical issues.
The Media Roundtable will commence with an opening address by Acting Minister for Information, Communication and Arts Lui Tuck Yew, followed by three panel sessions on the global economic crisis; public policy and good governance; and promoting media cooperation between Asia and the Middle East. Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong will also host lunch for the Media Roundtable participants.
