MFA Press Statement: Visit of Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo to the Syrian Arab Republic and the XV Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement, 9 to 16 July 2009


Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo will visit the Syrian Arab Republic (Syria) from 9 to 13 July 2009. This will be the first high-level visit by a Singaporean leader to Syria since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Syria in May 2008. While in Syria, Minister Yeo will meet with Syrian leaders and senior officials. Minister Yeo will also take the opportunity to visit historic and cultural sites of interest in Syria. Minister Yeo will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (MUIS).

Thereafter, Minister Yeo will proceed to Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt for the XV Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement from 13 to 16 July 2009.
