Embassy Press Release: Meeting between Ambassador of the Republic Of Singapore His Excellency Premjith S and Chairman of the General Authority for Investments and Free Zone (GAFI) His Excellency Dr Hassan Fahmy

The Ambassador of the Republic of Singapore His Excellency Premjith S met with the Chairman of the General Authority for Investments and Free Zone (GAFI) His Excellency Dr Hassan Fahmy on 14 January 2014 to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral economic cooperation.


          During the meeting at GAFI, Dr Fahmy gave a briefing on Egypt’s general economic situation and investment priorities.  Dr Fahmy also provided an overview of GAFI’s on-going activities and upcoming initiatives to improve the investment climate in Egypt.  While noting that Singapore was ranked number one in terms of doing business in the world, Dr Fahmy proposed, inter alia, for GAFI officials to visit Singapore to study its experiences. Ambassador Premjith welcomed the proposal and pledged developmental training support for Egypt under the auspices of the Singapore Cooperation Programme (SCP).


The meeting concluded with a tour of GAFI’s “one-stop shop” which serves both the foreign and domestic business communities. Ambassador Premjith witnessed first-hand the regulatory environment where 43 different agencies come under one roof to facilitate investments in Egypt.
